The Bathroom

“You should charge people to use your bathroom,” was the right response of a friend on  entering the only fully jostified room in the flat.  Unfortunately I didn’t think to take any before photos, but I can describe it: Holloway prison-cell-blue with mahogony effect bath panel.  That was the extent of its styling.

This project is a good example of what jostification is all about, and what inspired me to start a blog.  Any further jostification of the flat will be duly documented here.

The first one shows before the marble effect bath panel was finished:

The marble effect completed.  Creating marble effect in acrylic and PVA is surprisingly easy and really fun.  Other parts of the flat may end up getting the same treatment…

Obviously the expanse of white tiles is a little unnerving for a Jost, but I’m awaiting inspiration for what to do with them.  In the meantime, the rest of the room is obviously, just fine.

Th butterflies are colour photocopied from a book and pasted onto the door with wallpaper paste.

I found this gorgeous Jesus picture many years ago in a front garden in Walthamstow.

This is the only piece of my artwork on display in The Bathroom.  Part of a series called Obsession, Compulsion & (dis)Order I painted a dustpan and brush in baroque style with marble effect and trompe l’oeil. I’ll do a proper post about these pieces at some point.

It’s important to keep evil away with the help of this voodoo aerosol spray (available in all good Hackney magic shops).
